TASK BRIEF
In task 2, we are required to assess, investigate, document
and analyses the existing art/design work that selected in Task
1. We will study the design principles found in the selected design,
as well as the size, placement, purpose, effectiveness of the design in
relation to the UNSDG Goal in this task.
I have selected the sixteenth goal - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions from the UNSDG Goal for my task. I focus on this goal because it aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. In this task, I will analyze and look more into the design principles of the artwork that I chose.
VISUAL ANALYSIS
Selected artwork:

Victory is near is a mixed media by Yuliia Kiselova, June 10th, 2022, Canvas 60x60, Acrylic, Texture Paste. |
Selected UNSDG Goal:
No. 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
Phase 1: Observation
The artwork that I chose is in portrait format. There was a white dove in the center. The wings of the white dove are spreading. It was an olive branch in the white dove's mouth. At the bottom, the background is highlighted with bright yellow and light blue as the underlay. At the top, dark blue is the most prominent color, while light blue is more covered by dark blue. Phase 2: Analysis
The white dove in the middle emphasizes the theme of this artwork; it allows people to quickly get an understanding of the subject it wants to present. Not only that, the color white also makes the dove stand out against a background of complex colors, which helps the viewer focus more on the main elements in the artwork—the white dove. The white dove, spreading its wings, achieved balance. The background surrounding the white dove also shows balance. The background of light and dark exchange allows people to visually feel that the overall image is moving, which is the effect of movement. The artwork's background repetition itself uses two-line styles of distorted long lines and broken short lines, which alternate with yellow and blue and produce a stunning swirl-like picture. Phase 3: Interpretation
This piece of artwork was uploaded to the Internet on June 10, 2022, by Yuliia Kiselova. The artwork was created to encourage the Ukrainian people suffering from war. The meaning is presented more clearly and naturally in this realistic painting style.
The first sight I saw was a white dove flying with an olive branch in its mouth. In Christianity, these are both symbols of peace. Additionally, the subconscious of most individuals naturally associates white doves with freedom and peace.
The bright yellow in the painting represents the dawn of peace and victory, while the dark blue represents the darkness of war. The upward-flying posture of the white dove brings out the era when victory is advancing and erasing the darkness. The gradient background shows the author's explanation of the painting: "Soon peace and silence will return to the hearts of each of us.". (144 words)
